TWO men were charged with attempted murder in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Chris Collins, 20, and George Hamilton, 31, appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney after they were accused of trying to kill Billy Cejour and Antonio Paul on August 4.
Prosecutors alleged the accused used a firearm to endanger the lives of the two men.
Although the last two charges brought against Collins and Hamilton are electable, Magistrate McKinney said he would refer the matter to the Supreme Court to be heard before a judge and jury as the counts stemmed out of the attempted murder charges.
As a result, he adjourned the case to November 9 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI). Both accused were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until then.
They have a right to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
Meanwhile two Abaco men who denied assaulting two people in separate incidents are set to stand trial on the island in October.
In the first case, Calvin Newbold was arrested after he was accused of assaulting a Dundas Town man with a cutlass on August 6.
He was further accused of threatening the man during an altercation that same day.
Newbold pleaded not guilty to assault with a dangerous instrument and threats of death and his case was adjourned for trial in Marsh Harbour on October 18.
He was released on $4,500 bail in the interim.
Police have also charged Rodney Strachan with assaulting two officers with a knife in Dundas Town on August 6.
They also allege that he behaved in a disorderly manner and resisted arrest when the officers attempted to restrain him.
Strachan denied the allegations and his case was also adjourned to October 18 for trial.
In the meantime, he was granted $3,500 bail.
