AN American businessman who denied having a .9mm pistol and a large quantity of ammunition was yesterday granted bail ahead of his trial.
Police alleged William Green, 49, was found in New Providence with the unlicensed firearm along with 38 rounds of .9mm ammunition on June 13.
The Denver, Colorado native pleaded not guilty to the charges during his hearing before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt yesterday.
In applying for bail, his attorney told the court Green was an “upstanding businessman with substantial ties to his community” who was also the sole “breadwinner” of his family.
Green also told the magistrate he had visited The Bahamas in the past on a one-day cruise ship excursion, but said this was his first time visiting the country by airplane.
The prosecution did not object to bail.
As a result, Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt granted Green $35,000 cash bail.
He returns to court August 18 for trial.
