HEAD coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin led her Ole Miss Rebels to another upset win over a ranked Kentucky Wildcats team.

The Rebels concluded the regular season with a 73-69 win over the No.17 Wildcats on the road Sunday night at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Kentucky.

With the win, the Rebels recorded the first season sweep over the Wildcats in programme history.

“Man, what a huge win for us,” McPhee-McCuin said. “Just incredible. Really excited for our team, the way we fought. Just to get a win over a ranked team on the road, words can’t describe how proud I am for this team and to get a bye for next week.”

Valerie Nesbitt finished with seven points and five assists. She weaved through defenders and made a driving layup to give the Rebels a seven-point lead midway through the third quarter. Ole Miss outscored Kentucky 18-11 in the period.

Ole Miss defeated Kentucky on February 4 of this year.

In her first season at Ole Miss, McPhee-McCuin led the Rebels to a win over then No. 16 Kentucky on January 13, 2019.

Ole Miss earned the No.11 seed and first round bye in the SEC Tournament. They will face the No.6 seeded Arkansas Razorbacks in the second round on March 4 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Arkansas finished the regular season at 19-7, 9-6 in the SEC and is nationally ranked at No. 16 in both AP and USA Today Coaches Poll.

“We’re going to Greenville to win games and then we’ll let the chips fall where they may. When we started out as a staff this season our goal was to go to the postseason, we never specified which one,” McPhee-McCuin said. “We don’t have any pressure on us, we feel good about being an NIT team, and now we are going to focus on being an NCAA Tournament team.”
