POLICE have arrested a 61-year-old American man suspected of human trafficking.
His arrest is in connection to a “job scam” in Orlando, Florida, police said yesterday.
Police previously warned people of a “disturbing trend” they said had developed where Bahamians were being “lured to the United States with the promise of a job ready and waiting for them at a resort in Orlando, Florida.”
The Royal Bahamas Police Force said this was a fraudulent scheme that could result in negative outcomes.
“Bahamians and residents are reminded that, prior to accepting employment in the United States, there is a legal requirement to have the appropriate visa issued by the United States Embassy,” the RBPF said.
Police said the resort in question has no employment agreement with the individual(s) who had been prospecting in this country.
As a result, Bahamians were warned not to fall victim to this scheme.
