BAHAMIAN girl bosses will be “spilling the tea”, giving women the scoop on all they need to know about finance, branding, customer service and more during a special tea party next Sunday.

The May 30 event, “Women and Money”, will be the inaugural edition of “Spill the Tea” party for the new Girl Boss Empowerment organisation. It will feature as speakers entrepreneurs and community leaders like Chantel O’Brian, C Allyssa, Enise Dalisma and Latoya Flowers, who will share tips and tricks on how to run a successful business venture.

As guests enjoy a three-course meal, not to mention a variety of teas, important topics like marketing, business etiquette and how to tap into talent will be discussed.

“The Girl Boss Empowerment organisation is fairly new. What started as a WhatsApp business group in September 2020 with intent to serve as a marketplace to limit out-sourcing and supporting one another, has now evolved today into a mind-blowing organisation strongly built on the belief and the act of empowering like-minded females in business and in life,” said members of the group’s administrative team.

“This organisation is... a sisterhood. From the outside you can see us uplifting, motiving, supporting and building each other.”

Using the platforms WhatsApp and Facebook, the team have established connections to between female entrepreneurs and support one another by sharing flyers, making purchases, giving out referrals and taking part in other outreach activities.

The members recently held what they called “GBE Feeds”, an event held at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Fox Hill which helped feed 150 to 200 people free of charge.

“This organisation is about helping each other and the general public at large. There is a common misconception that a group of women together will not get along or will not operate smoothly, and that is false. We want to make it known in society today, as women, we are not who the world showcases us as. Instead, we are what we make ourselves to be. It is vital that we show our nation that a group of women can empower one another, strengthen one another, and most certainly support one another,” said the GBE members.

They explained that theme of the tea party was inspired by the phrase “Girl, what’s the tea?” that is often used to get the latest news and gossip.

“We thought what better way to bring about conversations about empowering women and learning the key ways to make, save and invest money. Hence the name, ‘Spill the Tea’,” said the GBE members.

“We would like each person to take home as much information as possible to better themselves and their businesses. Whether it is key points from the speakers’ messages or simply the social and networking part of the event. Our main goal is for each attendee to step out with more knowledge than what they came with.

We are looking forward to the speakers sharing their knowledge. This entire event is to embark knowledge and ensure that women entrepreneurs are well equipped to tackle their respective fields. We are also looking forward to seeing women safely network by following protocols which can ultimately expand their businesses or help them with the necessary information to begin their business.”

The GBE group said it is also planning several other future events, including beach clean-ups, back-to-school giveaways, a second ‘GBE Feeds’, outreaches, seminars and more.
