A 27-year-old man who tried to hide his stash of marijuana when officers visited his home to search it was yesterday fined $1,000.

Police arrested Obinson Clesidor after they found 11.58 ounces of Indian hemp on him on September 10.

The prosecution said that day, officers, acting on information, went to a home off John Road. When they arrived, they noticed Clesidor, who appeared to look in their direction before throwing a box over a fence.

The court was told that officers pursued the accused before retrieving the box.

When they examined its contents, they found a clear plastic bag with several marijuana foil wraps.

A further search of Clesidor’s pants pocket led to the discovery of an additional silver foil wrap with marijuana.

He was subsequently arrested and charged. When he was questioned in custody, he admitted ownership of the drugs.

When Clesidor appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, he also pleaded guilty to one count of simple possession. As a result, he was fined $1,000 or nine months in prison.
