TWO MEN were granted bail yesterday on separate charges of threats of death.
Omar Thompson, 26, represented by Lennox Coleby, stood before Magistrate Shaka Serville accused of threatening to kill his former girlfriend, Shavette Bain, on June 19 in New Providence.
After electing to continue the case in the Magistrate’s Court, Thompson pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution indicated to the court that he had other matters before the courts and that he was currently on $20,000 bail. He is also being monitored and is expected to sign in at Central Police Station every Monday to Friday by 6pm.
During his official bail application, Mr Coleby indicated that the incident in question was a relationship issue and that despite this his client was of good character.
The prosecution then asked that the court set conditions as part of Thompson’s bail to ensure that he has no contact with his ex-girlfriend as his court matter proceeds.
In view of this, the magistrate granted the accused $5,000 bail with one or two sureties on condition he signs in at Central Station every Monday and Friday before 7pm.
Magistrate Serville further warned the accused to stay away from Ms Bain and to have no contact between them physically or digitally. Failure to comply with these terms would result in his bail being revoked.
Thompson’s trial is set to begin October 5.
The other man, Edvardo Deveaux, 38, represented by Ian Cargill, also stood before Magistrate Serville accused of threatening to kill D’nero Williams at 4.10pm on July 1 in New Providence.
Deveaux also elected to continue his matter in the Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
When asked about the relationship between himself and Williams, the accused said he did not know Williams.
With no objections to bail, it was granted to the accused at $3,500 with one or two sureties.
Deveaux’s trial will also start on October 5.
