A MAN was charged in a Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with the death of a man who was awaiting retrial for murder.
Jeremy “Donkey” Thompson, 23, faced Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on a charge of murder for the shooting death of Rolin Alexis on July 3 in New Providence.
Alexis had previously been charged with the murder of Dessaline Nichols on July 21, 2011. He was shot in his vehicle in Florida Court. While Alexis was officially convicted for this matter on May 13, 2017 and sentenced to 45 years in prison, the Court of Appeal granted him a retrial on the charge for which Alexis was currently out on bail.
Thompson was not required to enter a plea in court and was informed that his case would proceed by way of Voluntary Bill of Indictment (VBI).
The accused was also told that his case would be heard before the Supreme Court, where he can once again apply for bail after being denied it in court that day.
Until bail is granted, Thompson will be remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
The accused is expected to return to court for service of his VBI on December 6.
