WITH schools on a break, basketball action remained in full swing with the Providence Basketball Holiday Classic, which featured an appearance by one of the top players in American prep basketball.

Texas Select - 51

NGM Major - 23

Billed as one of the top prospects in the Class of 2012, L J Rose lived up to expectations in controlling every phase of the game, leading his team to a blowout win.

Rose finished with a game high 14 points to go along with six assists and three rebounds. He finished as one of three team members in double figures along with Stephen Strachan and Remardo King who each finished with 10.

Rashad Major and Laron Taylor each paced NGM with nine.

NGM scored the game's opening basket, but was shutout for the remainder of the quarter as they fell behind early.

The Select Team lead 14-2 at the end of one, behind Rose's 3-3 shooting from distance.

The Select Team led 21-11 at the half, with Rose dishing an assist to Gibran Smith for buzzer beating reverse layup.

In the second half, Rose looked to setup up his teammates and third the crowd with a series of highlight reel passes on fastbreak opportunities.

They led by 20 for the first time, 32-11 on a no look pass from Rose to King who finished with a dunk in traffic.

The duo hooked up again on the following play when Rose passed it off the glass for King who again finished with a dunk to bring the crowd to its feet.

Rose threaded the needle for his fifth assist of the game, this time to Kellen Hutchinson who finished for a 42-12 lead at the end of the third quarter.

C I Gibson Rattlers - 69

St Johns College Giants - 42

In the highest scoring game of day one, a balanced effort from the Rattlers got the better of the Giants in yet another lopsided contest.

Rashad Ingraham led the Rattlers and tied for the game high with the Giants' Kieran Mortimer with 20 points.

While Mortimer was the lone Giant to reach double figures, three Rattlers achieved the feat with Tyron Biyden and Oral Rahming finishing with 10 points apiece.

CV Bethel Stingrays - 41

Kingsway Saints - 16

The low scoring game heated up in the second half as the Stingrays pulled away and cruised to the win.

The lead reached as much as 20 on a three point play late in the third quarter to give the Stingrays a 30-10 lead.

TA Thompson T'Wolves - 51

St Annes Blue Waves - 40

Najee Lightbourne finished with a game high 14 points and six rebounds to lead the T'Wolves to the fourth win by double figures on the day.

Atario Collie stuffed the stat sheet for the winners as he finished with eight points, six rebounds and four assists in the win. The daily tournament continues at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium until December 30.
