St Louis Cardinals vs Boston Red Sox in the World Series Game 1 takes place on Wednesday night in the climax of the MLB 2013 playoffs. Adam Wainwright has been selected to start Game 1, showing how both teams desperately want to get a win to start the series. Many were expecting Wainwright to be selected for Game 1, and it appears those predictions have come true. He has a fantastic fast ball, a difficult curve ball, and experience of the pressures of the postseason. They will want his steady head and precise arm to get them off to the right start tonight.
Wainwright is known for delivering on the big stage for the big games and they don't come any bigger than this. These will be the games that Wainwright plays for and he will be eager to get on the mound and pit himself against the best on the biggest stage.
Wainwright told CBS Sports prior to the game, "What I've found throughout my playoff career so far is that I respond really well when the adrenaline really kicks in. I love that. The crowd gets louder. I get more fired up."
Fenway Park will certainly provide a hostile crowd for Wainwright tonight, and the atmosphere could be one where many lesser pitchers lose their bottle and give in to the pressure. However, they will do well to rattle the Cardinals' pitcher.
Wainwright was kept out of the Cardinals' 2011 World Series Championship, and he will be loving being here this time.
