A 12-year-old boy from Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, was remanded to the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys on Friday after appearing in court charged in connection with the negligent death of 15-year-old Kyron Curry, who died after falling into the water during a fishing trip near Nunjack Cay.
The Bahamian-American juvenile appeared before Magistrate Shaka Serville charged with negligently causing the death of Curry by means of unlawful harm.
The boy was not required to enter a plea.
Prosecutors alleged that on June 12 at Nunjack Cay, Abaco, the juvenile negligently caused Curry's death by means of unlawful harm.
The court remanded the boy to the Simpson Penn Centre for Boys and informed him that any application for bail must be made before the Supreme Court.
The matter stems from an incident previously reported by the Tribune where according to police reports, a group of juveniles left Green Turtle Cay aboard a 17-foot vessel at about 4pm on June 12.
Police alleged the vessel was being operated by the 12-year-old when Curry, who was standing on the bow holding a rope, fell into the water.
Police said the occupants heard a loud sound and observed blood in the water but were unable to locate the teenager.
A search was later launched by the Green Turtle Cay Volunteer Fire Department, and Curry's body was recovered from the water as CPR was administered, but he was pronounced dead by a local physician with a fractured skull.
The case was adjourned to December 17.
