A child is dead and two men were injured after a fiery crash on the Warren Levarity Highway on Monday.

This latest incident brings the traffic fatality in Grand Bahama over the last two days count to three, following a double fatality on Sunday that claimed the lives of two young men.

According to Superintendent Stephen Rolle, the collision occurred around 11.30am near Bahama Rock, involving a tractor head and a black Chevy Impala.

The tractor head burst into flames on impact; however, the driver managed to escape.

Mr Rolle said the juvenile was a passenger in the black vehicle, along with an adult male. Both were injured, and the car sustained extensive damage.

Images of the crash went viral on social media, showing black smoke and flames engulfing one of the vehicles while the second sustained severe front-end damage.

EMS personnel transported the male child and two adult males, all with serious injuries, to the hospital, where the child later died.

Supt Rolle said investigations are continuing into the accident.

Early Sunday morning, two men were killed in a traffic accident at East Atlantic Drive and Tamarind Street. Two women were also injured and taken to hospital. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Extremely tragic but was the child wearing a seat belt?

Sadly I was coming to ask this same question. Was the child restrained? People don't like when you ask the hard questions like this. Unfortunately, many Bahamians do not wear seatbelts. They also have children sitting up in the front seat- unrestrained. Children should be sitting in the backseat wearing a seatbelt, and depending upon the size they should be in a car seat or booster seat. It is very sad when a person loses their life tragically, even more so when it is a child. I just pray this family can find some peace during this difficult time.

So many fatal accidents could have simply been minor accidents if people were wearing their seatbelts. I'd venture do guess if the police actually bothered to enforce drunk driving laws, and cellphone use while driving, and people started wearing seat belts, we'd so nearly zero traffic fatalities.

Bingo. No enforcement. Well I can't say 'no' as for the last two weeks i've passed a police stop almost every other day.

Slowing the hell down, helps too.
