Spartan power hitter Pritchard named SSC Player of the Week

AFTER winning their 14th Sunshine State Conference championship, senior Heath Pritchard's power-hitting game with the University of Tampa Spartans has earned him the title of SSC Player of the Week.

The 6'5" 225lb designated hitter and first baseman helped lead the No. 2 Spartans to a series sweep over No.9 Nova Southeastern. He hit three home runs and batted .556 in the series with four RBI and seven runs scored.

Pritchard also hit safely in all three games with a .615 on-base percentage. He first left the park in a 10-1 victory for the Spartans in the opening game of the series and then followed with two home runs in the 12-4 series finale.

The Spartans now prepare for the NCAA Division II South Regional scheduled for May 17-20.

In his senior season, Pritchard started 22 of 34 games and led the team with nine home runs. On the season, he has hit .290 with 31 RBI.

After attending IMG Academy in Brandenton, Florida, Pritchard moved to the University of Tampa where he redshirted his freshman season.

After two seasons on the JV squad, he experienced a breakout season in his junior season. He played in 31 games for the Spartans and recorded multiple hits against Nova Southeastern and Florida Southern .

The first multi home run game of his collegiate career came against Nova Southeastern and he also scored a triple against Lynn University. On the year, he posted seven runs, 13 RBI and had a .500 slugging percentage.
