EDITOR, The Tribune.
I use this header because how this issue has been dealt with shows that whoever wrote the PLP “Charter of Governance” did not seemingly show the page on Numbers (page 168) to the Rt Hon Perry Christie before the PLP policy was written as how can the Prime Minister say he is shocked, aghast as to the number of alleged players of numbers when in his charter it states...“Due to the extent to which percentage of the population engages in the industry whether directly or indirectly, within the first 100 days in office the new PLP government will: hold a referendum of the general Bahamian population to determine whether it is the desire of Bahamians to legalise the numbers business...”
In contrast, I read the FNM Manifesto and are unable to find any mention of the issue however we know the leader was in personal discussion and meetings with the operators of this illegal activity drawing up proposals, etc, etc, and now the new leadership seem to deny all of that.
What we should be exceptionally concerned about is the fact that for years almost every single area of our governance system were breaching the laws and looked the other way.
There was, there is total disregard to the laws of The Bahamas – those who were/are responsible who have totally ignored complying with and abiding with the laws and now we wish to flush all of the breaching in a dip of strong bleach and kiss up with such pious words and try to take credit.
Successive governments, opposition parties, high officials of many of our statutory authorities disregarded the Laws and we now wish to make everything legal without having the Attorney General and the police taking what they should be taking and we wonder just why we have so much crime? So many were exceptional ‘A’ grade students of crime, Editor.
