Man arrested over 'theft of fuel'

POLICE have arrested a 27-year-old Pinewood Gardens’ man for the reported theft of fuel from the Water and Sewerage Corporation’s Pumping Station on Sunday.

Around 7am, police received a report that $1,500 worth of diesel was stolen from the station at Look Out Hill in Winton Estates.

Officers from the Eastern Division launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect in connection with this incident. The officers were also able to recover the stolen fuel, police said.

Two other men are being sought by police in connection with this incident.

Police also reported the seizure of one firearm and several rounds of ammunition during an unrelated incident.

Just before 11am on Monday, police received a report of three suspicious men lurking around at 7th Terrace, Centreville.

“When police arrived at the scene they saw three men behaving suspiciously,” a statement from police said. “The men, on seeing the police, fled on foot into Fritz Lane. The police gave chase. After a short foot chase one of them was caught.” A handgun and a quantity of ammunition was found. “The other two men managed to elude police,” the report said.

A search continues for the remaining suspects.
