EDITOR, The Tribune.
I concur with Messrs Stanley Burnside, James Catalyn and Kirklyn “K.B.” Bodie, that we do not need to be celebrating someone else’s culture. One of the notices on the Parliamentary Buildings downtown says “celebrate our culture,” isn’t it ironic? Are we speaking with a double tongue? Everything that is foreign is better?
We are supposed to be a Christian nation. Yet we want to expose our children to vulgarity and gyration; half naked people rubbing up to each other all muddied up. Some say the money will be good for the economy; but at what risk to our reputation and innocence, not to mention the spreading of diseases, etc.
My research reveals that the carnival celebrations, involves the worship of Bacchanal or the God of Bacchus or confusion.
The celebration, according to my trini-sources, is based on two days preceding Lent.
At this time, no meat is eaten; then every Friday only meat is eaten and no calypso or radio is played. The God of Confusion.
At the high rate of crime we don’t need to be no more confused. Crime and murder statistics speak for themselves.
Excessive drinking and sleeping in street corners should be a no no. Let us say no to Carnival now.
