SENIOR Bahamian and Haitian government officials are in bilateral talks covering trade, technical co-operation and illegal migration. Negotiations in Nassau this week were said to have been fruitful in advancing the draft texts to be signed this summer.
On Monday, officials from the Bahamian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Office of the Attorney General, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas Investment Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government and the Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation met a Haitian delegation. It followed discussions in Port-au-Prince in March when Prime Minister Perry Christie and Haitian President Michel Martelly met.
The Haitian delegation was led by Fresner Dorcin, Secretary of State for Agricultural Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development. Also involved were Antonio Rodrigue, Haitian Ambassador to The Bahamas, Alix Celestin, Director General, National Port Authority, Jean Claude Barthelemy, Director of Economic Relations and Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Max Millien, Senior Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, and Monorde Civil, Deputy Director of the Office of Standardisation, Ministry of Trade and Industry.
