A newly-established brokerage firm yesterday said it was aiming to assist debt-burdened Bahamians with a “fresh start”, offering a range of financial solutions for mortgages, debt consolidations and financial restructuring.

Rosel Moxey, president of Gateway Financial, said the company had “evolved” from real estate develooer Arawak Homes, and was a loan broker seeking to assist persons with debt refinancing as well as financial advice.

“Gateway, at its core, is a loan broker, but our overall mission is to assist persons with refinancing and give them a fresh start,” said Mrs Moxey, adding that while Arawak Homes has always offered mortgage broker services, Gateway in its current form is less than a year old.
“Seven years into a recession and a financial culture that is very strong in consumer loans, a lot of our people are drowning,” she added.

“The focus of Gateway is to assist persons with looking at their financial affairs and help them to reorganise, so that there is some room again, some space to not be so strapped.”

Mrs Moxey continued:
“Gateway evolved from assisting clients of Arawak Homes who were seeking to purchase homes. We just made the decision recently to offer our assistance to the public at large, as we saw the growing need for persons who are financially challenged and could benefit from the assistance.

“The key for Gateway, unlike other loans brokers, is of course Gateway’s relations with Sunshine Finance. Gateway is a loan broker, and yes, we broker with all the commercial banks, but we also have access to our own private lender in Sunshine Finance.

“In this economy, we know it is very difficult for persons to access capital. A lot of loan brokers are only taking what you have, adding $2,000 cash in hand, sending you somewhere and calling that brokerage. What we are saying is we want to sit down and talk with persons so we can work out the best solution for them.”
