RESIDENTS in the Marathon area can expect “heavy traffic” next week, as phase one of renovations to the Mall at Marathon begins.

In a press statement, executives from the mall said “street improvement” as well as the reconfiguration of the mall intersection near the First Caribbean International Bank and Clarke’s/AID from Marathon Road are to start soon. During this time, residents can expect some traffic delays as well as “partial and full road closures to allow for paving.”

“The Mall at Marathon is pleased to announce its multi-phased plans to commence phase one of our upgrades to the mall. As you are already probably aware, we are in the process of repainting all mall buildings with new colour swatches: cream, blue and gold. The repainting of the buildings will not include phase one mall entrances for now as there are plans to remodel the same in the future,” the release said.

“Island Pavers is under contract to start the street improvements this month...The project will include a reconfiguration of the mall intersection near the First Caribbean Bank and Clarke’s/AID from Marathon Road. At this mall entrance, one additional ingress turning lane will be added near the bank. A realigned driveway will be built from this intersection past Clarke’s/AID, the Burns House Building, into the strip centre parking lot. The car park between the bank and X-Press It will be completely redone with sidewalks, planters, and expanded parking. The strip centre parking lot and adjoining driveways will be completely redone with additional parking allocated for X-Press It and the Burns House Building.”

The release also said that work is scheduled to begin next week and be completed by June 1.

The time-line for the project is subject to change based on ongoing conditions with partial and full road closures expected to allow for paving, the statement said.

The mall will focus this year on exterior improvements, which includes the street improvements, painting of the mall building and possibly remodelling of the mall’s entrances.

Interior remodelling is expected to begin in 2016.
