CONDOLENCES

DEATH OF

SAMUEL JOHNSON

THE basketball community is mourning with the family of the late Samuel Johnson, a rising young basketball player.

Johnson, 25, was involved in a car accident that left him in a coma two weeks ago.

Over the weekend, Johnson succumbed to his injuries while recuperating in the Intensive Care Unit of Princess Margaret Hospital.

Over the years, Johnson had played in a number of leagues, including the New Providence Basketball Association.

He was also a member of the Golden Gates Native Baptist Church, which played and won the Baptist Sports Council’s Basketball League. That team was coached by Joyce Minus.

Johnson was a talented young player who came out of SC McPherson. He always had a nice smile that transended his performance on the court. There was never a time that Johnson got down on himself, even when his team was on the losing end. He would always try to find that intestinal fortitude to pull his teammates up.

The Tribune wishes to join in sending condolences to Johnson’s family.
