Bahamas' strong attendance at STEP conference critical

The Bahamas' focus on private wealth management meant a strong presence at this year's STEP Latin America (LATAM) conference was essential, a local executive said yesterday.

More than 20 persons from the Bahamas attended the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) conference, including Brent Symonette, minister of financial services; Tanya McCartney, Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) chief executive; and John Lawrence, co-founder and active Board member of the STEP Latam conference; and Cecil Ferguson, chairman of the STEP Bahamas Branch.

Some 400 delegates were present at the September 28-29 conference, having travelled from countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, US, Europe and Asia.

Mr Lawrence said: "This is one of the biggest and most widely-attended international conferences on the STEP calendar, and it was important to have this strong representation from the Bahamas financial services sector."

STEP Worldwide, known as the Society od Trust Estate Practitioners, has more than 20,000 members and is known as the leading worldwide professional association for those advising families across generations.
