TEAM Bahamas rebounded from their loss to host Costa Rica on Wednesday by taking it out on the US Virgin Islands yesterday in the American Zone III Davis Cup Tie.

Philip Major Jr won his opening singles 6-0, 6-2 over Russell Armstrong, while Baker Newman followed with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Tomas Del Olmo.

With the tie secure, captain Marvin Rolle went with the combo of Donte Armbrister and Justin Lunn, who lost to Nicholas Bass and Kristepher Elein. "Today was a pretty clean match. My goal was to stay focused and get in a good start," Major Jr said.

"I did that. Today was definitely needed for me. Hopefully, I can take the momentum into tomorrow."

Baker was just as excited about his performance.

"Secured the win. It's a great, great feeling," he said. "I almost lost out at the end of the match, but I kept on going. I felt good."

Lunn tried to explain what transpired in their doubles match.

"It was a tough match today. We started off slow," he said. "They just played a little better. We played very good doubles. We were pretty pleased with the score. For me, I'm happy."

Armbrister, however, said they played together for the first time and that could have been a factor. "It was a good, tough two-setter," said Armbrister, who was making his Davis Cup debut. "We were learning each other's style and how we can gel together."

The Bahamas, now 2-1, will close out round-robin play today against Puerto Rico to determine who they face in the playoffs scheduled for Saturday.
