A MAN has been charged in connection with the fatal arson of a home on Baillou Road last month, which led to the death of a 31-year-old woman.

Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans arraigned 46-year-old Quinten Russell on charges of arson and murder.

Russell is accused of intentionally setting fire to Anishka Bonaby’s home on West End Avenue and Baillou Hill Road around 4am on January 6.

While Ms Bonaby escaped the blaze, she suffered burns to 85 percent of her body and was placed in a medically induced coma. She succumbed to her injuries at Princess Margaret Hospital on January 22.

Her family claimed the fire was deliberately set by someone who knew her.

Russell was not required to enter a plea. His case will proceed to the Supreme Court through a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until the VBI is served on May 21.

Assistant Superintendent of Police S Coakley served as the prosecutor.
