COMMISSIONER of Police Shanta Knowles said the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) has 900 body cameras and is working to secure an additional 300 to equip frontline officers.
During a police press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zhivargo Dames expressed optimism that the new cameras would be deployed within the next 90 days.
In addition to expanding body camera use, Commissioner Knowles said ethics training for officers has already started, with daily sessions being conducted.
“We have been having daily sessions with our officers,” she added.
Commissioner Knowles had previously outlined her plans to mandate ethics and conduct training for all officers and reserves, focusing on justifiable cause, harm reduction, and the abuse of power. She has also committed to making body-worn camera activation a standard requirement for all frontline officers to ensure that public interactions are thoroughly documented.
The initiatives are part of her first 90-day plan to modernise the force, increase transparency, and restore public trust following recent scandals.
