WORKERS at the Buckeye Bahamas Hub were evacuated yesterday morning after a suspicious package was found near the facility, forcing a temporary shutdown of operations.

In a statement, the company said that in line with security and emergency protocols, the package was promptly reported to local authorities and investigated.

Authorities conducted a full search of the West Sunrise Highway facility and found no threat.

Operations were later resumed.

“We appreciate the swift response and coordination of local emergency and security officials,” the company said.

Superintendent Nicholas Johnson confirmed that the package contained items of clothing.

This is the second major industrial facility on West Sunrise Highway to halt operations recently.

In February, the Grand Bahama Power Company Generation Plant was shut down after a bomb scare triggered an islandwide outage. Police later determined the scare was a hoax, and a man was charged in connection with the incident.
