Mitchell meets with the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin

Foreign Affairs minister Fred Mitchell met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, on Friday to discuss climate change, peace and security, and sustainable development, with particular attention to their impact on the human condition.

Also joining the meeting were Ambassador Jerusa Ali, Foreign Affairs Director General, and Ambassador Joseph Curry, non-resident Ambassador to the Holy See. They discussed current geopolitical challenges and expressed support for the people of Haiti, Cuba and Venezuela where there is an urgent need for consistent and sustained support. 

Their discussions underscored the moral and social responsibilities of the international community, highlighting the importance of pastoral care for affected populations and the protection of human dignity, especially for the most vulnerable. 

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation through diplomacy and multilateralism as essential means for addressing global challenges, fostering dialogue, and delivering sustainable and peaceful solutions in service of the common good.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Holy See have maintained cordial diplomatic relations since 27th July 1979. His Excellency Joseph Curry is non-resident Ambassador of The Bahamas to the Holy See and Archbishop Santiago de Wit Guzmán serves as the Apostolic Nuncio accredited to The Bahamas based in Trinidad and Tobago.
