Jah love. Give thanks and praises for this great article. The fact is that since the 18th century when many French colonials packed up their entire plantations and fled Hispaniola to flee the slave rebellions, the Bahamian colonials passed laws to discourage their blacks from interacting with the ones from Ayiti. And that probably contributed to serious prejudice which is still present in Bahamian society and culture today. I feel sorry for the Haitians who have to live with this hateful treatment. The children are seriously harassed and tortured at school and they often come from dysfunctional homes where they don't have the necessary love, support and nurturance. I know that many of the Bahamian born Haitians are married with Blacks whose ancestors were enslaved in the Bahamas since before the 18th century. And they probably felt compelled to go into these relationships because of some level of self hatred. And when they move on to South Florida, the situation is jus as bad or worse because they have to deal with racism, colourism and class prejudice. I applaud Dr. Louis for his bold words and I hope and pray that Bahamian Haitians are freed someday soon. Blessed love.
