AFTER months of hard work, their disqualification from the Global Battle of the Bands, Bahamas competition was a disappointing blow, but Legacy 242 would not be defeated. They staged a guest performance at Saturday's event, after convincing event organisers to allow them a spot during a band change.

The six member band was two members short when it was their turn to perform. As a result, they were disqualified from the competition, much to the dismay of frustrated fans.

"Two of our members came late which then resulted in our disqualification. The majority of our band was there. We felt as though this was a small technicality because the majority of our members were present. It was just so painful for us because we did everything we were supposed to do to," said Patrick Carey band leader and guitarist.

"We begged them to at least allow us to perform. We wanted to just do it for our fans. They supported us all the way and the last thing we wanted to do was let them down. We wanted to give them something to remember us by," said Mr Carey.

The band's performance of "Meant To Fly" and "It's Over" brought together elements of rock, R&B and traditional Bahamian music. It was met by applause from the audience, who bounced to the music, although many were unfamiliar with the lyrics.

"At the time of their performance I did not even know Legacy was actually disqualified from the competition. They still were outstanding; they were energetic. It was so sad they were disqualified because I actually came out there just to see them," said Ashley, fan of the band.

Legacy 242 was formed almost eight years ago. The band comprises six members, including lead singer and keyboard player Chris "Sketch" Carey, drummer Kevin Smith, keyboard player Jeffrey Chea, Kendal Smith on bass, Rick Carey lead singer, and Patrick Carey band leader and guitarist.

Legacy 242 plans to return to their performance venue at Bimini Road, Marina Village. The band is also looking to release a compilation of their original work in the near future.

"We have been known as a cover band, because so many people request covers and we do a really good job at it. But now we will be hitting the studio to record our own music," said Mr Carey.

"The competition was really good. It was good to see all of the bands out at the event. There are so many bands out there who are out of work and I hope that the competition provided the avenue for them the get some kind of employment. I am proud that KB and his band Stinkin Wayz won. It is their time and I wish them the best of luck when they travel to Romania," he said.
