LONG ISLANDERS are still talking about the recent Feast of Title celebration for the Holy Saviour Anglican Church, as it was the first time this historical edifice held its “Feast of Title,” since the short closure due to Hurricane Irene last year.
Held in Millerton Long Island, Anglican Parishioners from the length and breadth of Long Island, all gathered in masses to celebrate the feast on Sunday. Last year, Hurricane Irene damaged a section of the roof of the church, warranting its closure.
Father Chester Burton, Rector of St Peter’s Anglican Parish said he, along with Holy Saviour members, worked actively to ensure the church would not remain closed for too long a period of time.
“It was indeed an auspicious occasion as this would be the first time Deacon Lynden Douglas would preach in this once palatial edifice that is in need of some desperate [work] to maintain the aesthetic beauty of this structure,” said Father Burton.
At the service on Sunday, the congregation tuned into the words of Deacon Douglas, who preached on transformation and admonished the congregation that the same way Jesus was transformed in the transfiguration, it could happen to them if they believed in him and did his will.
Deacon Douglas encouraged and challenged the members to look deep within themselves to see the inadequacies of their lives and rise to the occasion so that the change can be visible in their lives and families around them.
Father Burton said people can look forward to Deacon Douglas being ordained on September 19 of this year at Christ Church Cathedral.
