Teen organist to make his debut

TOMORROW evening, 17-year-old David Rahming, the associate organist at St George’s Anglican Church, will perform his first organ and hymn recital.

David, the son of Lana and David Rahming Sr, grew up in the church of Christ the King, Ridgeland Park West, and has been a proud Anglican all his life. Ever since he was a little boy he had a passion for the organ, often gazing at the organ pipes in amazement.

When David was eight years old, he began taking piano lessons under the tutelage of Jeffrey Sturrup, the organist at Christ the King. Mr Sturrup was able to show David the ropes, teaching him some of the fundamentals of music.

Having not had any music lessons for quite some time, in the summer of 2013 David decided he would take things into his own hands and continue his lessons from where he left off. The very first hymn he learned to play was “My Faith Has Found a Resting Place”. From there on, he added to his skills and musical abilities.

About a year later, in the summer of 2014, David began playing at Christ the King services throughout the week, then occasionally on Sundays, whenever Mr Sturrup was on vacation, and also to assist at Evensong.

Today, David is a regular organist at St George’s Anglican Church, playing Evensong on Sunday nights. He also plays at Holy Cross on the third Sunday of every month and at Christ the King on the fourth Sunday of every month, and for the Youth Sunday services at both parishes respectively.

Additionally, at St Agnes he plays for the midday mass on Wednesdays and on Saturday mornings for their children’s mass at 7.30am.

David is also an avid aviation enthusiast and would like to be a professional airline pilot flying right here in the Bahamas with Sky Bahamas. He is currently seeking all the help he can to accumulate the funds for his flight training, which is to commence in October. He said he appreciates any additional sponsorships and donations of any amount.

David’s recital tomorrow night starts at 7pm at St George’s Anglican Church. A donation of $20 is being requested.
