High seas warning after Cayman earthquake

A warning of "elevated seas" has been issued after a 7.6 magnitude earthquake near the Cayman Islands on Saturday.

At 7.45pm, the Bahamas Department of Meteorology issued an alert after warnings of a tsunami risk in the region.

The South-Easr Bahamas is at risk of elevated seas berween 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday. This includes Ragged Island, Crooked Island, Acklins, Mayaguana and Inagua, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Coastal residents on eastern and southern shorelines of those areas are advised to remain vigilant. 

Countries in the Caribbean as well as eastern Central and South America have been put under tsunami threat warning by the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
