Pedestrian dead after being struck by car on Collins Avenue

A MALE pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car along Collins Avenue on Friday night, police said.

Officers were alerted to the incident shortly before 9pm on April 10 and responded to the scene, where they found an unresponsive man lying on the trunk of a red 2009 Honda Civic.

Emergency Medical Services personnel examined the victim but found no signs of life.

Preliminary reports indicate that the man, believed to be in his early sixties, was attempting to cross Collins Avenue from east to west when he was struck by the southbound vehicle.

Police said the car, which was driven by a lone female occupant, sustained damage to its front end and windshield.

The victim, who was described as wearing a red shirt and tan trousers, has not yet been formally identified.
