A MAN from the Dominican Republic accused of fraudulently obtaining a Bahamian passport was denied bail yesterday.
Prosecutors allege Ronald Antonio Dominguez Peralta, 36, uttered a forged naturalisation certificate bearing his name at the Passport Office on November 14, 2023.
Peralta allegedly obtained a Bahamian passport in his name by fraud on November 17, 2023.
He later allegedly presented the forged passport to a Bahamas Immigration border control officer on December 24, 2023.
Peralta was charged with two counts each of possession of a forged document, uttering a forged document and fraud by false pretences.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whyms.
Inspector 2257 Wilkinson, the prosecutor, objected to bail, citing Peralta’s lack of status in the country and the risk that he could flee.
Magistrate Whyms denied bail and remanded Peralta to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
His trial is scheduled to begin on November 21.
