THE first week of the 32nd annual AID Clay Court Championships wrapped up on Sunday with four titles being decided at the Gym Tennis Club in Winton Meadows.
On Friday, number two seeds Anthony Cooke & Godfrey Virgill defeated the team of Patrick Fernander and Larry Rolle 6-0 and 6-0 to win the men’s veterans doubles title.
Rain disrupted the Saturday programme and three finals were subsequently held on Sunday.
Anthony Cooke and Sh’ron Saunders claimed the mixed doubles crown by a 7-5 and 6-3 score over Godfrey Virgill and Bernadette Major.
The men’s open doubles final was won by Jacobi Bain and Tshombe Johnson over Tommy Moody and Tshaka Symonette 4-6, 6-4 and 0-3.
And Jyles Turnquest defeated Nicolas Duret 6-3 and 6-1 to claim the men’s junior vets singles title.
The ladies junior vets singles final between Bernadette Major and Malaika Masson will be played on Monday at 5:30pm and play in the men’s open singles and the men’s junior vets doubles divisions will continue during the week at the Gym Tennis Club.
The tournament will conclude on Saturday evening with the trophy presentation ceremony and spectators are welcomed to come out and support their favourite players and teams throughout the week. Entrance is free.
