A 17-year-old boy was accused yesterday of possessing a prohibited firearm and ammunition found in the yard of his Amos Ferguson Street home last week.
Prosecutors allege the teenager, whose name is being withheld because he is a minor, was found in possession of a prohibited black 9mm Glock pistol and 18 rounds of ammunition at about noon on August 7.
The weapon was allegedly discovered after a police dog alerted officers to a large ficus tree in the accused’s yard while they were executing a search warrant.
Earlier that day, the defendant and alleged accomplices are accused of stealing three Yamaha Razor scooters from Virginia Street belonging to Terran Rolle.
The stolen vehicles are valued at a total of $7,500.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition and three counts of stealing before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr.
A relative of the accused was present for his arraignment.
The defendant was granted $7,500 bail with one or two sureties. Under the terms of his bail, he must be fitted with a monitoring device and obey a daily 7pm to 7am residential curfew.
He must also sign in at the Grove Police Station every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday by 6pm.
The accused returns to court for trial on November 11.
