A trio of Cabinet ministers, together with senior officials, met with Grand Bahama Shipyard executives as part of a review of work permits and related labour needs on Grand Bahama.

Fred Mitchell, minister of foreign affairs and Immigration, together with attorney general Wayne Munroe KC; Darron Pickstock, minister of state for Immigration; Ellison Greenslade, permanent secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister; Joel Lewis, permanent secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama; and senior ministry officials from Labour and Immigration sought to obtain a detailed account of the company’s workforce needs and learn of its growth requirements.

Mr Mitchell subsequently held a broader meeting with the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce and several private sector stakeholders, who feed into the jobs in the industrial sector, to discuss labour statistics, training issues and how The Bahamas’ policies can help improve benefits for workers in Grand Bahama.
