A MAN was accused on Friday of defrauding two women of $4,100 through an alleged fake apartment scheme last month.

Prosecutors allege Denar McKenzie, 40, defrauded Aliayh Albury of $2,000 by false pretences on July 9 in New Providence.

McKenzie is also accused of defrauding Gwendolyn Hinds of $2,100 by false pretences on July 3.

He allegedly collected money from both women on the pretence that it would pay for an apartment that did not exist.

McKenzie pleaded not guilty to two counts of fraud by false pretences before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly Burrows.

Sergeant Vernon Pyfrom, the prosecutor, did not object to bail but requested that conditions be imposed.

McKenzie was granted $5,000 bail with one or two sureties. Under the terms of his bail, he must sign in at the East Street South Police Station on the first Monday of every month.

He was warned not to interfere with witnesses or risk having his bail revoked.

McKenzie returns for trial on October 23.
