A HAITIAN national was accused of fraudulently obtaining a Bahamian passport and National Insurance Board smart card.
Prosecutors allege John Doe, also known as “Gaulthier Sinea”, 39, uttered a forged NIB smart card bearing the name Sinea at the Passport Office on September 24, 2024.
He allegedly fraudulently obtained a Bahamian passport bearing the name Sinea on September 30, 2024.
The defendant is further accused of uttering the allegedly fraudulent passport at the National Insurance Board in an attempt to obtain an NIB smart card on October 24, 2024.
Doe pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a forged document, uttering a forged document, fraud by false pretences, possession of a false document, uttering a false document and attempted fraud by false pretences before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whyms.
Sergeant 2257 Wilkinson, the prosecutor, objected to bail, arguing that the defendant posed a flight risk because he had no strong ties to the community.
Doe was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until he returns to court on August 21.
