Five men reported missing at sea found safe

FIVE men reported missing at sea near Bimini were found safe on Friday morning after their boat ran out of fuel during a fishing trip.

Police said volunteers from Bimini located the men around 8am in the area of Isaac’s, about five to six nautical miles north of Bimini.

The men had left a dock in Porgy Bay around 11.30am on Thursday aboard a white twin-engine vessel for a fishing trip.

Police were alerted shortly after 11pm that night when a woman reported that her brother and four other men had not returned and their whereabouts were unknown.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Police Marine Support and Services Branch were notified and search efforts began.

Police said the men were found after their vessel ran out of fuel.

All five were safely transported back to Bimini and appeared to be in good health. Police thanked the volunteers and others who assisted in the search and recovery effort.
