A MAN was charged yesterday with breaking into the Free National Movement headquarters on St Michael Road and stealing $1,590 worth of property last week.

Prosecutors allege Michael Woodside, 34, broke into an FNM building and stole a 21-speed Begasso bicycle, an assortment of beer and a case of chicken leg quarters belonging to Gadville McDonald sometime between June 24 and 27.

During the same incident, Woodside allegedly caused $1,070 worth of damage to the front and back doors, a security screen door and locks at the building.

Woodside pleaded not guilty to shopbreaking, stealing, receiving and damage when he appeared before Magistrate Abigail Farrington.

Woodside’s bail was set at $3,500 with one or two sureties. Under the terms of his bail, he must sign in at the East Street South Police Station every Thursday by 6pm. He will also be fitted with a monitoring device.

Woodside returns for trial on August 12.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Kendrick Bauld prosecuted the case.
