A WEEK after losing one relative to gun violence, a family was struck by tragedy again on Saturday when a 50-year-old man was shot dead while sitting in his car outside his home.

Police said Omar Miller was sitting in his red Volkswagen outside his Cowpen Road home just before 1pm when a dark-coloured SUV pulled up. 

A gunman got out and opened fire, fatally wounding him.Responding officers found Miller unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His family was left devastated, with his killing coming just one week after the murder of his first cousin, 33-year-old Delano Miller.

Delano was one of five people shot in Bain Town on Independence Day. 

His relatives believe he was an innocent bystander caught in a barrage of gunfire.

A relative told The Tribune the back-to-back killings have left the family shaken and struggling to cope with another devastating loss. 

When asked whether the recent shootings could be connected, Chief Superintendent Sheria King said it’s too early to tell. S

he also could not say whether the vicim was known to police. 

Miller’s death has pushed the country’s murder count to 42 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.
