Conch diver dies after having breathing difficulties while diving

A MAN died after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties while diving for conch off New Providence on Thursday morning.

Police said the man and another male left Potter’s Cay Dock at about 7am aboard an 18-foot vessel to dive near Porgy Rock, approximately five miles off the coast.

At about 10.30am, after surfacing, the man reportedly began having difficulty breathing and became unresponsive.

The other man attempted to help him aboard the vessel but was unable to do so. He then sought assistance from nearby boaters, who helped retrieve the unresponsive man from the water.

The group transported him to Montagu Dock, where police and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded shortly after 11am.

Medical personnel examined the man and found no signs of life.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected drowning.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
