TWO men were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services on Friday after being charged with the murders of Delano Miller and Fred Wildgoose in connection with an Independence Day shooting in Bain Town that also left three women injured.
Romeo Cooper, 23, of 41B Hay Street, and Deonne Lockhart, 22, of 14 King Street, appeared before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr in Magistrates Court on two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors alleged that on July 10 in New Providence, the men intentionally and unlawfully caused the deaths of Miller and Wildgoose by means of unlawful harm.
They were also charged with the attempted murders of Rickell Rolle, Tamara Jean and Ketnal Val.
Prosecutors alleged that on the same date and at the same location, the defendants attempted to cause the deaths of the three women by means of unlawful harm.
The charges stem from a shooting shortly after 9pm on Independence Day in the Dumping Ground Corner area of Bain Town.
Police previously said ShotSpotter technology alerted officers to gunfire. Officers found five shooting victims at the scene.
Miller was pronounced dead at the scene, while Wildgoose later died in hospital. The three women were also injured.
Police previously alleged that two armed men exited a silver Kia Rio and opened fire on a group gathered beneath a tree before fleeing.
Investigators later recovered a silver Kia Rio abandoned off Hospital Lane that they believed had been used as the getaway vehicle.
Police also said the vehicle had been reported stolen during an armed robbery on Market Street on July 3.
The defendants were not required to enter pleas because the offences are indictable.
Senior Magistrate Allen remanded both men to BDOCS. They are scheduled to return to court at 10am on December 4 for the service of a voluntary bill of indictment. They may apply to the Supreme Court for bail.
