A 52-YEAR-OLD pedestrian died after being struck by a van on Cowpen Road yesterday morning, with the driver initially leaving the scene before later reporting the accident to police.
Police said officers responded shortly after 7.15am and found the unconscious man lying in the roadway.
Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene before taking him to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the man was walking north along an unnamed street off Cowpen Road when he was struck by a white van.
Police said the driver left the scene after the collision.
At about 12.30pm, a woman went to the Carmichael Road Police Station and reported that she had been involved in the accident.
Police are continuing their investigation.
