A MAN accused of being caught at 3.30am trying to remove a car bumper outside Super Value on Robinson Road while carrying several tools was granted reduced bail yesterday.
Deangelo Bethel, 37, was initially granted $4,000 bail, but Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr reduced the amount to $3,000 after Bethel said he would have difficulty securing it.
Prosecutors allege police found Bethel attempting to remove the front bumper from a 2015 Nissan Note belonging to Tarino Antone in the store’s parking lot on July 24.
He is also accused of damaging the vehicle and possessing a blue screwdriver, yellow pliers, a silver ratchet and a silver wheel wrench.
Bethel pleaded not guilty to possession of housebreaking implements by night, attempted stealing and damage.
Sergeant 3004 Forbes did not object to bail after her records showed Bethel had no previous convictions, but asked the court to impose conditions.
Bethel must sign in at the Grove Police Station every Wednesday by 6pm.
His trial is scheduled to begin on October 22.
