WHILE many are doing their part to keep the youngsters off the streets in summer activities in New Providence, Kelson Stubbs has decided to do it in his native Cat Island.
Stubbs, a long-time youth administrator, will host another version of his Camp Stubbs Sports Programme under the theme: "Better Practice, Better Results."
During the basketball camp, scheduled for June 29 to July 3 at the Arthur's Town court and July 6-10 at the Old Bight Primary School court, Stubbs will instruct the campers between the ages of 9-18 in fitness and conditioning, fundamental skills, team work, game strategies and safety and life responsibilities.
To register, persons can email stubbsk454@gmail.com
Additionally, Stubbs will also hold the inaugural Cat Island Independence 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Arthur's Town, Cat Island, July 8-10.
Prizes will be presented to the first three finishers. An award will also be presented to the most valuable player.
To register, teams are urged to email stubbsk454@gaail.com
Stubbs said he's encouraging as many teams from New Providence to go to Cat Island to compete in the tournament.
"I am trying to get at least 10 teams to participate," Stubbs said. "In the Family Islands, we welcome the teams when they can come over to participate."
Stubbs, who has been doing the Stubbs Basketball Camp since 2009, said the tournament is an addition to the activities that he's bringing to the island this summer.
"The islanders are always looking for something for their children to engage in, so I put on the camp every year," Stubbs said. "But I really want to make this first tournament a success.
"We are hoping that teams from New Providence will make it to Cat Island. It's going to be a lot of fun and there's a lot of things that they can do to get to know a little more about the island."
The tournament is open to all ages.
The camp, according to Stubbs, is free for all participants. They receive free awards and certificates, but he's looking for the public to assist in providing t-shirts for the competitors.
