A MAN accused of using a letter with a forged signature of Housing and Urban Renewal Minister Keith Bell to defraud a woman of almost $10,000 was remanded to prison Tuesday.
Prosecutors allege Nathan Bain, 27, uttered a letter bearing Mr Bell’s forged signature to Derek Wilson and defrauded her of $9,622.25 on May 19.
Bain also allegedly assaulted Sergeant 3948 Hall and Police Constable 4456 Smith and damaged Hall’s property, valued at $1,386, at 12.40pm on June 4.
Bain pleaded not guilty to charges of uttering a false document, possession of a false document, fraud by false pretences, money laundering (acquisition), damage and two counts of assaulting a police officer before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly-Burrows.
Sergeant Vernon Pyfrom, the prosecutor, objected to bail, citing Bain’s previous fraud conviction.
In 2018, Bain was sentenced to one year in prison for fraudulently obtaining cash, Bahamian passports and NIB cards from several people.
Bain was remanded to prison until his bail hearing on Thursday.
