A POLICE officer testified on Friday that he collected evidence from the scene where a man allegedly pulled a gun on two officers on Mutton Fish Drive in 2020.
Detective Constable Lameiko Bell testified before Justice Loren Klein in the trial of Laseheno Cox, who faces two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Cox is accused of exiting a vehicle and pointing a gun at Inspector Jermaine Flowers and Police Constable 4856 Travis Davis on November 5, 2020.
DC Bell said that on the same day, he went to the crime scene and was instructed by the investigator, Assistant Superintendent of Police Keno Demeritte, to collect evidence.
The officer said he gave a firearm and phone recovered at the scene to ASP Demeritte.
Before that, the officer said he swabbed the weapon for DNA evidence.
While at the scene, DC Bell spoke with the two officers involved in the incident.
DC Bell told the jury that officers do not allow everyone onto a crime scene to avoid contaminating the evidence. He also told them that a full crime scene sweep is standard.
The officer said Corporal Sweeting photographed the scene.
DC Bell was shown a signed request-for-analysis form that showed Corporal Brown received the items.
Defence attorney Ian Jupp pointed out that DC Bell’s report was dated four days after the incident.
DC Bell said he could not recall why it took so long for him to file the report.
Mr Jupp said the gun was not on the list of items submitted to police.
The officer said the gun was marked after he swabbed it.
The officer said he did not recall seeing any blood at the scene.
He said police officers involved in shootings have their weapons collected.
When asked by the jury if the bullet recovered from a wall was swabbed for blood to prove the suspect was shot, DC Bell said the bullet only needed to be tested to determine what gun it was fired from.
Mr Jupp questioned whether ASP Demeritte was at the scene to direct the officer.
DC Bell maintained that he was instructed by the investigator on what to collect and said he could not recall exactly which officers were at the scene.
The officer said he was not aware whether the photos taken by his crime scene investigator colleague were entered into evidence.
Basil Cumberbatch is prosecuting the case.
