A 30-YEAR-OLD man has been accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at a business on East Street South last week.
Prosecutors allege Oswald Poitier Jr raped the girl in the early hours of September 25.
Poitier appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans. He was not required to enter a plea to a charge of rape.
He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until December 10. On that date, he is due to be served with a voluntary bill of indictment, which will send his case to the Supreme Court. He was told he has the right to apply for bail in the higher court.
The girl had left home on September 24 to spend the night at a family friend's home. The following morning, her grandmother was called to the police station. There she learned that her granddaughter had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a man she knew at a business in the East Street South area.
The girl has since received medical attention. Inspector Deon Barr prosecuted the case. Levan Johnson represented Poitier.
