Nine-year-old allegedly stabbed by brother

A NINE-year-old boy was stabbed and robbed as he walked to a store on Saturday, allegedly by his older brother, who had recently been released from the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre.

Police said the boy's mother told officers her son was walking to a nearby store in the area of Andros Avenue and East Street when his brother approached him. She said he stabbed the boy about the body with a sharp object, took money the child had and ran off.

Police were alerted to the stabbing shortly after 5.35pm. Paramedics examined the boy at the scene and took him to hospital, where medical staff later told detectives he was in serious but stable condition.

Officers searched for the brother but did not find him. Police are investigating.
